Highlights in the November 2009 Issue
In The Groove is the newsletter of MAPS and is mailed on a monthly basis to all MAPS members. Look down below on this page for more information about becoming a member and about In The Groove.
Front cover: This month's In The Groove cover is a stroboscope based on an original Caruso Stroboscope found in Caruso On Record. A stroboscope allows speed of a turntable to be adjusted to the speed at which it had been recorded. Not all records were recorded at "78 rpm."

of Michigan as a non-profit corporation. To become a member of MAPS and
receive the monthly newsletter, In The Groove (ITG), you must fill out a membership application and have a member of MAPS in good standing sponsor you. Your first year's dues must be included with your membership application.
A membership information package is also available by mail from Phil & Eileen Stewart at the address below.
NOTICE: Check the renewal information in the November 2009 ITG. There are 12 In The Groove publications per calendar year. Former members of MAPS who left in good standing may rejoin at any time without filling out a membership application by paying their dues for the current year. The dues are as follows:

February 7 - Andover, Massachusetts - The next meeting of MOCAPS will be held at the home of Jack Whelan beginning promptly at 12:00 noon. If you are planning to attend, please mark the date on your calender and e-mail Jack as soon as possible at his e-mail to RSVP. Let him know then if you need driving directions. As always, entree, veggies, desert, beverage, and snack donations are always welcome. The Show & Tell session will feature small phonographs & miniatures and ultra portables, including the Edison Gem, and competitors, i.e., Columbia Q, Eagle, etc. A big turnout of Edison Gems is encouraged. Ultra portables could include Peter Pans, Mignonphones, Mikiphones, Kompacts, and other similar machines. We will also need some cylinders and discs to demonstrate, so bring some interesting ones.
 
March 12-13 - Racine, Wisconsin - Tribute to Bix Beiderbecke featuring Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks at the Marriot Hotel in Racine.

WISCONSIN
The Wisconsin Chapter is currently under the excellent care of Robin and Joan Rolfs. They have written three books for the phonograph hobby which are "Nipper Collectibles", "Phonograph Dolls and Toys" and co-authored the book "Phonograph Dolls That Talk and Sing." The Wisconsin "Cheeseheads" are always encouraging the fun of interacting and sharing information and have an informative newsletter for its members. ALABAMA

INDIANA
The President of the Hoosier Antique Phonograph Society, Indiana's chapter of MAPS, is Paul Ladd. Dick Oxenrider of Pierceton is the Indiana chapter treasurer and the newsletter editor is Tim McCormick. The chapter's web site is www.HoosierAntiquePhonographSociety.com. HAPS is hosting Phonovention again for 2009.
NORTH and SOUTH CAROLINA
Good News! MAPS has expanded to North and South Carolina. Robert Barnes
of Charlotte, NC has organized the Carolina Chapter of MAPS and called
it the Carolinas Antique Music and Phonograph Society, CAMPS. Contact

COLORADO AND SURROUNDING STATES
The Old West Antique Phonograph Society (OWAPS) is another new addition
to the growing list of MAPS chapters. This chapter will serve Colorado

CALIFORNIA CHAPTER
The California Chapter has been named The Golden State Phonograph Society.

Groove
is the MAPS monthly newsletter sent to all members in good standing. Each
monthly issue is composed of about 24 pages with articles and ads about
antique phonographs, records, recording artists, and related advertising.
Notices of auctions, helpful hints, wanted to buy, for sale, advertisements,
and a swap shop (about four two-column pages!) are all a part of the ITG.
