Mark your calendars!

Phonovention dates for 2009 are:
Friday, July 31 & Saturday, August 1.

MAPS will celebrate its 33rd anniversary at Phonovention 2009 at the World War II Victory Museum in Auburn, Indiana. Check the Phonovention 2009 web site for detailed information about the Phonovention. Driving directions are at the bottom of this page.

Phonovention is THE event for Antique Phonograph and Record enthusiasts. Once a year, the Michigan Antique Phonograph Society (MAPS) hosts this event. This year, the Hoosier Antique Phonograph Society (HAPS) is co-hosting with grateful assistance from the Wisconsin (WIMAPS) Chapter of MAPS. The very first Phonovention took place at Jackson, Michigan in August 1979. It featured a Saturday flea market, banquet and dance to the Victrola (members brought dance records). Johnny Johnson and Art Miller were the hosts.

Phonovention 2009 will be held in the spacious Rotunda of the World War II Victory Museum in Auburn, Indiana. Vendors will have tables offering everything your antique phonograph heart could desire. Display tables will surround the outside walls with prime examples of exquisite machines from private collections. This event is perfect for the novice to the hobby, as this is a great opportunity to meet the Who's Who in the field and get answers to all your questions.

On August 1st, we will make a live recording of a brass quintet onto wax cylinder. The cylinder and a public testimonial signed by the event's participants will be buried in a time capsule at Edison's birthplace in Milan, Ohio–with instructions for its retrieval and playback in the year 2109.

Phonovention 2009 will feature vendor tables and a host of educational presentations on phonographs, records, and the early recording industry. The highlight will be the keynote by acoustic recording engineer Peter Dilg, followed by Mr. Dilg's live recording session of  "The Phonovention Rag."  Come be a part of history!

A block of rooms has been reserved at La Quinta Inn for $72.00 plus tax. This rate is valid until July 15th, so book early. The Record Spin and Hospitality Room will also be hosted at the La Quinta Inn. Make hotel reservations by contacting the La Quinta Inn at 260-920-1900 and mention the "Antique Phonograph Society - MAPS". Or check the web page at LQ.com - Auburn, IN.
